Lucy Kaufman
I work on the history of early modern Britain, primarily the religious and social history of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I am especially interested in the intersection of popular politics, social structures, and religious change during the period; my master's thesis, entitled "The Process of Protest: Religious Petitioning and Quiet Dissent in England, 1583-1586," examined the widespread political and ideological reactions to religious reform in the later Elizabethan Church. My other interests include early modern Europe and the British empire. My advisor is Keith Wrightson.
Raised, though not born, in Carlisle, PA, I received a B.A. in Renaissance Studies from Yale College in 2004. After two years spent working at the Arden Theatre Company in Philadelphia, I moved to England where I received a MPhil in Early Modern History from the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Dr. Elizabeth Evenden. I have received support for my research from the MacMillan Center, the Henry Hart Rice Fellowship, and the Jesus College Foundation Scholarship, among others.
