Recent research focuses on forest conservation, the timber industry, and the establishment of nature parks in early 20th C. East Asia, with connections to economic and industrial development, migration, colonialism, and "modernization."
The American West always holds me in thrall, as does volcanic geology.
I also enjoy armchair entomology and have a life-long pathological obsession with opera.
As a former high school and college dropout who has worked as a birth assistant, in the performing and visual arts, and at a non-profit combatting child prostitution and trafficking, among other various and sundry jobs, I would be happy to talk with other students or prospectives about unconventional academic paths.
