I study the history of medicine and public health in modern China. My dissertation focuses on a gathering of scientists and physicians in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming during the Second Sino-Japanese War. I am exploring the ways in which this group’s work on vaccination changed the course of public health in Kunming more broadly. Wider research interests include the social history of twentieth-century China and historical connections between science, medicine, and public health.
