Professor Guinnane, who received his PhD from Stanford in 1988, is the author of The Vanishing Irish: Households, Migration, and the Rural Economy in Ireland (Princeton, 1997). He was the Pitt Professor at the University of Cambridge (2002-3) and a Visiting Scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation (2000-1). He will be a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences during 2007-8. His current research deals with financial markets and demographic change in nineteenth-century Germany.
