Biblical Journal Search Training Sessions: Looking for journal articles on passages in the Bible? Not sure where to start? Come to a library training session on Finding Journal Articles on Scripture. This class will cover the three most important databases for finding articles in Biblical Studies:

The Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism Seminar Series presents Professor David Menashri, The Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, Tel Aviv University on the topic, "The Place of the Iranian Jewish Community in the Contemporary Islamic World." This talk will be given on Thursday, November 15 at 4:15 PM in Linsly-Chittenden Hall Room 102 (63 High St.).

Dear friends, This is an invitation to the upcoming Community Conversation. On Monday, November 12 from 6 - 7 pm we will gather in the RSV room for a conversation on "Speaking Our Grief". This will be a conversation to directly address the many things on our hearts following the death of Young In Lee. (Please note that this conversation will postpone the originally scheduled conversation of "Sexualities at YDS". The Community Conversation Committee decided to reschedule this conversation in light of the death of Young In.) This gathering will be an opportunity for all of us to bring those questions, concerns, thoughts, prayers, and hopes on our hearts to the larger community. We will begin with an introduction from Dale Peterson, who will share some of the circumstances surrounding Young In's death. We will also hear from Grace Han, of Yale Divinity Korean Association (YDKA), who will share with us some thoughts about Young In. We will then have time for open conversation, moderated by: Jan Holton, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling Bill Goettler, Assistant Dean Alfred Tisdale, Interim Director of Anglican Studies, Berkeley Divinity School Dale Peterson, Dean of Students. In addition there will be a prayer team on hand, made up of members from various denominational groups on campus. If you are concerned about the events surrounding Young In's death, interested in finding out more about her, in need of corporate or private prayer space, or just unsure of what or how to feel - we warmly encourage you to join in this conversation. You are cordially invited to The Howard Spiro Lecture to be delivered by Robert Klitzman, MD, Director of Ethics, Policy and Human Rights-HIV Center at Columbia University in New York on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. in Hope 216 Auditorium on 315 Cedar Street. The presentation is entitled: “Double Lives: When Physicians Become Patients.” For many doctors, their role as powerful healer precludes thoughts of ever getting sick themselves. When they do, it initiates a profound shift of awareness – not only in their sense of themselves, which is invariably bound up with the “invincible doctor” role, but in the way that they view their patients and the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Klitzman will speak about his new book, When Doctors Become Patients. The book, based on extensive interviews, provides a systematic, integrated look at what the experience is like for doctors who get sick, and what it can teach us about our current health care system and more broadly, the experience of becoming ill. The Yale Divinity School and the Program in Judaic Studies present Baruch J. Schwartz, of Hebrew University in Jerusalem, speaking on: “The Riddle of the Ungrateful Vine (Ezekiel 17): A New Solution” on Tuesday, November 27 at 4:30 pm in the RSV Conference Room.  Free and open to the public.  Come hear this important biblical scholar, who will be a visiting professor in the Judaic Studies program for 2008-09.

Whom would Jesus marry, and with whom am I going on November 10 to hear Bishop Sprague? MIND, a new United Methodist organization working to end discrimination against LGBT people in the UMC, is sponsoring a forum to discuss a Biblical case for gay marriage and how it relates to the UMC. Yale School of Nursing Career Day: The Yale University School of Nursing is pleased to be hosting the 4th Annual East Coast Nursing Consortium Career Days program from 11:00 am–2:00 pm on December 7, 2007. We hope your students can come to the Yale University School of Nursing that day to network with local and national health care organizations and educational institutions as they recruit talented individuals in the New Haven area. Today it's a health hazard to be baptized in the Jordan! In the past decades, over 90% of the Jordan's water flow has been diverted -- and much of what remains is untreated sewage. The Jordan River is a major source of freshwater in a water scarce region, as well as a place of unique religious and cultural heritage for Muslims, Christians, and Jews. That's why this issue has the potential to unite the region through shared efforts to preserve and restore the Jordan. Friends of the Earth Middle East is an interfaith organization that promotes cooperative efforts to protect the region's shared environmental heritage. Gidon Bromberg, Yale World Scholar and Israeli Director of Friends of the Earth Middle East, will be holding a brown-bag lunch to discuss the Jordan River and interfaith possibilities for its restoration. The talk will be of interest to anyone concerned with environmental peace building and interfaith movements in the Middle East. This talk will take place on Wednesday, November 14 from 12:30-1:20 in the Jonathan Edwards Room.

January Mission Trip Information Session: Information sessions for a January mission /service trip sponsored by the Office of the University Chaplain will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 8 p.m. and Thursday, November 8 at 4 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the chaplain's office, located in the basement of Bingham Hall, entrance D. The info sessions will give students an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming January trip. The January mission/service trip will take place January 6-11 in Washington, DC. Participants will volunteer for agencies serving the hungry & homeless of the nation's capitol, and will also have the opportunity to speak with homeless activists. The trip costs $35.00, which covers all expenses (room, board, travel, program) except one meal. There will be some time for visiting the city. The trip is open to undergraduates and graduate/professional students from any faith tradition or none at all. A sweet Welsh springer spaniel named Ruby Begonia would like some company. The apartment is a lovely, postmodern space (fireplace, grand piano, modern kitchen) just around the corner from the divinity school on Whitney Ave. Need dog-sitter for Friday - Tuesday, November 16-20. Lost Blue Cardigan: I lost my blue cardigan sweater Tues night, it has an "Underdog" pin on it (while the rest of the nation lives under God, I live underdog). Anyhow, the sweater was a gift from my wife and I am in a heap of trouble if I go home on Wed without it. I think I may have left it in the library, reference room? If someone finds it can they please just leave it on a couch in the commuter lounge? If the underdog pin is still with it there could likely be a reward- maybe even one of my home brewed beers (eg.
